HQ Spider Is A Huge Fan Of Busch
As always, our NASCAR guest this week is a good one… As a matter of fact, he is arguably the most decorated driver Spider and I have had the pleasure of chatting with.
It's Kyle Busch, and for those who are new to the sport, he’s full-time in the Cup Series, part-time in the Xfinity Series, and then also part-time in the Truck Series (driving the No. 51 Toyota Tundra for his own team- Kyle Busch Motorsports).
He celebrated his 36th birthday Sunday in Victory Lane at Kansas Speedway last weekend after he pulled away on a restart with two laps to go to win his first Cup race of the season… And that victory came a day after he won the Camping World Truck Series race also at Kansas Speedway… So it looks like he had a great fucking weekend.
With Spider decked out head-to-waist in KB gear we asked him about:
- His win at Kansas made him the 10th different winner in the first 11 races of this season… I assume spreading the love is good for drivers, but is not having a dominant driver this season good for racing?
- Outside of winning stages, is there a premium in leading for most of the race versus making late runs at first?
- Busch’s latest victory gives him at least 1 win in 17 consecutive seasons, tying him for second on the all-time list. Richard Petty ranks #1, having won at least one race in 18 consecutive seasons… After all the records Busch owns, is taking the throne from Richard Petty for most consecutive seasons with a win important to him?
Kyle was an open book and easy to love… Good family man and all-around good person.
You can catch him again this Sunday (Throwback Weekend) driving the No. 18 Toyota Camry for Joe Gibbs Racing in the Goodyear 400 at Darlington Raceway starting at 2:30 EST… Right now, Kyle is (+800) to win on the Barstool Sportsbook, and you can watch all the live action on FS1.
Take a lap.
